The Pokewalker is a pedometer which can clip on your belt, bag or pocket, the device came with the HeartGold and SoulSilver Games. You can transfer your Pokemon into the Pokewalker; walking causes the Pokemon gain Experience Points, increase happiness and find items. By walking you gain a currency called "watts", these watts can be spent in the store in the Pokewalker to buy items which can be transferred into the games. It is extremely helpful if you are wanting an Umbreon or Espeon which require maximum happiness to get.
The device encourages players to go outside and walk around to "upgrade" their Pokemon, but of course not many if any people used it.
