This is a reference to Kang the Conqueror's backstory. Nathaniel Richards, the 31st Century relative to Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), uses Doctor Doom's Technology to go back in time to Ancient Egypt where he discovers a pharaoh has been using a Sphinx-Shaped Time Machine. Anyways long story, short - Nathaniel Richards travels back home but ends up visiting the war-torn 41st Century and conquerors it for himself and reinvents himself as Kang the Conqueror.
